There are few venues in the city that carry the same historic weight and architectural "wow factor" as Hart House. Located on the University of Toronto grounds, it’s a space that feels like stepping into a modern-day Hogwarts—which was perfect for Sharon and Fayyaz, who brought their love for Harry Potter to life in the Great Hall.
The Ceremony & Cocktails: The Hart House Quad
The day began in the stunning open-air courtyard known as the Quad. This is one of my favorite spots in the city for a ceremony because it feels completely removed from the downtown hustle.
The Vibe: For Sharon and Fayyaz, we kept the energy light and elegant with a mix of modern instrumentals as guests gathered in the sun.
The Technical Side: I utilize a dedicated, low-profile wireless system for the Quad to ensure the officiant and the couple’s vows are crystal clear, even with the natural ambient sounds of the university campus.
The Reception: Mastering the Great Hall
Moving into the Great Hall for dinner and dancing is always a "reveal" moment for guests. With its soaring ceilings and dark wood, it’s a massive space that requires a professional touch when it comes to sound design.
The Harry Potter Connection: As a nod to their favorite series, we welcomed guests into the Hall with the iconic cinematic score. It set a magical tone before transitioning into an elegantly choreographed first dance.
Acoustic Strategy: The Great Hall is beautiful, but its stone walls can be acoustically "live." To combat the echo, I used a distributed sound setup to ensure that speeches remained crisp and intelligible for every guest, regardless of where they were seated in the massive room.
The Party: Once the dinner plates were cleared, the energy shifted immediately. We moved into a high-intensity "Guys vs. Girls" dance battle that set the tone for the rest of the night. The playlist was a curated mix of new hip-hop, Latin, and dancehall vibes, balanced with a healthy dose of 90s throwbacks.
Planning a 2026/2027 Hart House Wedding?
As a Toronto DJ with extensive experience in the University of Toronto's historic buildings, I understand how to manage the unique technical requirements of the Great Hall and the Quad. From ensuring your custom "themed" requests hit perfectly to managing the complex acoustics of a stone hall, I make sure the music is as legendary as the venue.
