Opening for Starting From Scratch & DJ Baby Yu at "Project Rewind"

In August I was a part of an epic party at Revival Bar on College St in Toronto. The night's called "Project Rewind" and the theme is simple: featuring classic hip-hop from the 90s and early 2000s, some of my favourite music.

I didn't know much about the lineup when I signed on but in the weeks leading up to the party I was told the headliners would be not only Starting From Scratch, but also DJ Baby Yu! Both are long time legends in the scene and are really well respected DJs.

As the crowds filled in I warmed up the room with some throwback R&B jams, playing some Aaliyah, SWV, Usher and Mase. Special guest Danny Neville also jumped in to keep the vibe alive with smooth selections of his own.

Sometime after 12:30 the room was packed, with Scratch and Baby Yu coming on for a back-to-back four turntable showcase. With the stage behind them packed with partiers they ramped things up with banging hip-hop favourites, trading quick cuts and samples between each other.

A very exciting night, it was a real honour to share the stage with these guys!
